Overview

GitHub is looking for a visually minded front-end engineer to help build a world-class web experience for GitHub’s various marketing properties.

You’ll play a key role in the design and development process, work alongside other engineers and our Site Design team to build beautiful, delightful, and performant pages that are viewed by millions and developers and set the bar for our industry.

You’ll be joining a team of engineers within Marketing and partner closely with a talented dedicated design team, as well as other stakeholders within Marketing and beyond.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our Site Design team and other stakeholders to build, elegant, delightful, and effective front-end experiences.
  • Design, scope, and implement technical solutions that scale across multiple GitHub web applications.
  • Write clear, scalable, and well tested code with an emphasis on maintainability.
  • Provide technical leadership so that others can contribute confidently.
  • Contribute to a component-based design system.
  • Communicate persuasively with peers to inspire cooperation.
  • Mentor, pair, and delegate work to encourage the growth of others.
  • Make well-reasoned decisions that inspire and energize others.
  • Help recruit, interview, and generally make GitHub a great home for developers.

We’re looking for:

  • 4+ years building web interfaces.
  • Capable of building pixel-perfect pages quickly and effectively with a strong visual eye, attention to detail, and adoption of web standards.
  • Excited to contribute creatively to the design process from start to finish, bringing expertise in implementation and a user-centered approach.
  • Capable of building web animations that are performant and delightful.
  • Expertise with modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience working with Ruby on Rails and/or Jekyll is a plus, as you will likely be working within several Ruby environments.
  • A high bar for writing clean, maintainable, and scalable, and well-tested code.
  • Familiarity with test driven development and automated testing tools.
  • Ability to navigate large codebases and get up to speed independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to collaborate and share knowledge with teammates.
